Studying the Nibbana Sermons - online

This is peaceful, this is sublime, namely: the calming of all constructions, the letting go of all supports, the extinguishing of craving, dispassion, cessation, Nibbāna. (MN 64)

The Nibbāna Sermons are a series of 33 talks given by Bhikkhu Ñāṇananda during the period 1988 to 1991 to monastics in Sri Lanka, the purpose of which was to give them a detailed exposition of the path to awakening/ Nibbāna . The talks have been transcribed by Bhikkhu Anālayo and he led online study of them over a period of three summers in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

On this course we will be studying the first four of the Nibbāna Sermons through Bhikkhu Anālayo’s presentation of each sermon. Each sermon is a deep exposition of the teaching of the Buddha as found in the Nikayas of the Pali Canon.

This course will appeal to those who have a love of the early teachings of the Buddha. It will involve a commitment to listening to Analayo’s presentation in your own time and coming together for a collective exploration of the text and discussion each Sunday. You will need to print out a copy of the text each week.
It may be that we end up to studying all 33 sermons over the course of the next year or so but we will, in the first instance, begin with the first four sermons and just see how it goes.

For Mitras, Order Members and anyone who has been practising for a year or so. The course is not suitable for beginners.
