Mind, Reactive and Creative

A six-week Buddhism course for beginners and regulars

Starting 5th November
‎ ‏‏‎ ‎
This course aims to provide keys to understanding the Buddhist vision, which is essentially a movement towards liberation of mind.
‏‏‎ ‎
According to the Dhammapada (an early Buddhist text), our life is the creation of our mind. Our mind can function either reactively or creatively, and these two modes will bring about a life of suffering or joy. On this course we’ll be looking at the mechanics of how this works, and how we can learn to make creative choices, rather than just carrying on habitually, at the mercy of whatever happens to us.
‏‏‎ ‎
You will receive an e-book, which will be the course material, and each week you’ll be expected to read a section of it, in preparation for the following week. You will also be given some home practice to do in between course sessions. We will do a short, led meditation each week, but it doesn’t matter if you’re new to meditation, it will be led appropriately. There will be a presentation by one of the course leaders each week, and time for us all to discuss the material and ask any questions.
‏‏‎ ‎
‏‏‎ ‎
Reactive mind is very dead: it’s like a machine, but the creative mind, because it is not reactive, because it’s spontaneous, because it’s free and non-conditioned, is the really alive, the living mind.
