A meditation morning for any competent meditator interested in vipassana(insight) meditation.
“Bhikkhus, this is the direct path for the purification of beings, for the surmounting of sorrow and lamentation for the disappearance of pain and grief, for the attainment of the true way, for the realisation of Nibbāna– namely the four foundations of mindfulness.” (MN 10. 56)
In the Satipaṭṭhāna Sutta the Buddha teaches the four foundations of mindfulness. The four foundations are: the body; feelings; the mind and dhammas (which in this context means analysis of experience into specific catagories).
On this extended morning we will be accessing the four foundations directly in our own experience. The meditations will be as follows:
Meditation 1 – on the body in terms of the anatomical parts, the four great elements and death
Meditation 2 – on feelings both physical and mental and their impermanent nature
Meditation 3 – on the mind
Meditation 4 – on the five aggregates and the six senses
Meditation 5 – on the seven awakening factors.
There will be short breaks between ‘sits’ but the emphasis will be on maintaining a momentum of practice through the session.
