Daytime Dharma Course

Ending the Inner Critic

It is not an uncommon experience for many of us to feel harassed and harangued by an “Inner Critic” a voice of negativity who judges, blames and shames us. The Inner Critic seeks to confine us within a narrow, fixed self view. On this course we will seek to undermine that view through contemplating the three characteristics of impermanence, unsatisfactoriness and not Self. Such contemplation can help to lead us from painful constraint to the vast joyful spaces of the opening heart where we may course in such qualities as loving kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy and equanimity.

We will prepare each week by listening in our own time to a talk by Rob Burbea (author of the Seeing That Frees) and then come together each Wednesday to practice on the basis of the principles that he lays out. If there is time after the meditation we can share our experiences (if we wish) and raise any issues that we found of particular interest in the talks. Links for the talks will be sent out prior to the start of the course.

This course is aimed at seasoned meditators and is not suitable for complete beginners.
