This is the first of three sesshins which will be led by Alokadhara this autumn (the others being on 8 November and 13 December).
We will follow a similar structure in each one. Firstly, calming the mind through the mindfulness of breathing meditation. Secondly, engaging in mindful exploration of the direct experience of the body and the six senses thereby revealing their partial and ephemeral nature thereby dissolving the false distinctions between “inner” and “outer” and “body” and “mind”.
In the third meditation we will seek to evoke the beautiful, sublime qualities of the four Brahmaviharas, that is loving kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy and equanimity. Finally, we will aim to sit in open awareness, neither trying to develop nor push away any particular experience but simply being present to whatever is arising and passing away.
There will be short breaks between sits but the emphasis will be on maintaining a momentum of practice through the session.
The morning is suitable for competent meditators, from experienced regulars to those who have been meditating for at least six months and are eager to deepen their practice.
