Compassion and Emptiness in Early Buddhist Meditation
Wednesdays 10.30 am to 12.30 pm – 8 weeks
Part I 4 October 2023 – 1 November 2023 (no class on 25 October)
Part II 22 November – 13 December
On this course we will be studying Bhikkhu Analayo’s book on Compassion and Emptiness in Early Buddhist Meditation. The first half of the book examines in detail the four Brahmaviharas of metta, compassion, sympathetic joy and equanimity whilst the second half considers the “empty” states as found in the formless realms of infinite space, infinite consciousness, nothingness and neither perception nor non perception.
For those who have been attending the Centre and meditating for at least a year.
As an accompaniment to the book Bhikkhu Analayo provided some online led meditations which we will be practising in our own time and which will help inform our discussions.
The book is available either in the Norwich Buddhist Centre bookshop or at Windhorse Publications Compassion and Emptiness in Early Buddhist Meditation – Windhorse Publications
The accompanying meditations are available at: Brahmavihāra and Emptiness (buddhistinquiry.org)
