Dharma Study Day with Sagaramati

Dependent Arising – What the Buddha Awoke to

For Mitras and Order Members

20 October 2024 – 10:30am – 3pm

Ordained 50 years ago, Sagaramati has been one of the foremost scholars in the movement and is the author of the book Nietzsche and Buddhism. He is well known for his clear and invigorating approach to study.

On this day he will be exploring the central principle of the Buddha’s teaching dependent arising (paṭicca-samuppāda). According to this principle all phenomena of experience (mental and material – but with the exception of nibbāna) arise in dependence upon conditions and cease when those supporting conditions cease. As Bhikkhu Bodhi says paṭicca-samuppāda “is not merely one strand of doctrine among others, but the radical insight at the heart of the Buddha’s teaching, the insight from which everything else unfolds”.

An opportunity not to be missed. There will be maximum of 10 places so please book early to avoid disappointment.

Please bring something for a light lunch.
