When the Buddha first spoke to his followers after reaching Enlightenment, he could have taught many things. He chose to talk about our human suffering: its existence, its causes, its cessation and a path to free ourselves from it. Together, these are the four noble truths. In this four-week course, Satyadaka will explore this profound teaching. Each week we will explore one of the four noble truths through a mixture of meditation, talks, and discussion. The teaching is suitable for beginners and regulars. The four noble truths contain the essence of what it means to be a Buddhist.
The Buddha taught that suffering is a normal part of every human being’s experience, and explained how suffering is caused in human life. But as with all things, suffering is impermanent and we can let go of it. According to the Buddha, there is a way leading to the cessation of suffering. If we follow the path the Buddha describes, we will make a far-reaching journey towards a life lived completely and in harmony with ourselves, others and the world. We could live a life of happiness, no matter what happens to us. We have a choice.
This course will be spread over 4 evenings on Tuesdays throughout August (8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th).
