Parinirvana Day

WHAT IS THE BODY AND WHO DIES?

With Karunachitta and Sinhadakini

Sunday February 19, 10am for 10.30am – 3.30pm

Parinirvana Day is when Buddhists mark the death of the Buddha Shakyamuni and his passing into Parinirvana. It’s also a time when we reflect on our own mortality, and recollect those who have died over the last year.

In the morning, Karunachitta will explore ‘What is the Body and Who Dies?’ looking at the subtle levels of the body and experience.  Karunachitta: “There are more subtle levels of our body than the physical, for instance, the energy body, the emotional body, thoughts, and what constitutes our ‘spiritual body.’  So what is it that dies?”  We will look at these questions in a morning which includes: meditation, talk, discussion and direct experience of a gong bath.

In the afternoon, we will recollect how the Buddha’s approached his death in the context of  a seven-fold puja.

If you have a picture of someone you knew who has died over the last year, you can bring it to place on the shrine.

Bring vegetarian lunch to share.
