Allan Miller’s art blends abstract forms, layered textures, and symbolic depth. Though he struggled with traditional drawing in school, a career in IT revealed his strength in visual thinking. After 20 years, he left the tech world behind and turned to art— first through etching and woodblock printing, then digital mediums like Genetica and CorelDRAW. Genetica transformed his process, enabling subtle, complex textures that create shimmering, evolving imagery. His current series began with inspiration from Gustave Moreau’s “Tattooed Salome,” imagining a technowarrior in translucent, decorated armour. These ideas evolved into abstract forms suggesting shields, masks, or spaceships.ㅤ
Miller likens himself to a “midwife” for his work, letting images emerge organically. Influenced by his Buddhist practice and Zen aesthetics, he aims to express creative instability—forms in constant motion, coming into and out of being. Art, for Miller, is both a spiritual and emotional necessity. “I create art to stop myself from going mad,” he says—half joking, fully sincere.
The ‘Sarvasiddhi – 20 Years of Digital Art’ exhibition is part of the NBC’s year of Buddhism and the Imagination and the Sangharakshita 100 Celebration. The exhibition will run until 29 August.
