Silent meditation morning online with Vajraguptā, Sunday 31st December
As one year ends and another begins, our sense of time passing is often heightened. Perhaps we have hopes for the year ahead; that it’ll be easier or better than the last. The truth is that life’s pleasures and pains arise and pass just as the seasons do. Wanting what we are drawn to, and resisting what we don’t want is a habit that we all share. As we know, habitual behaviours are hard to break, but the Buddha taught that simple awareness can relieve the pull and push of our minds. After his Enlightenment the Buddha continued to meditate throughout his life, because he didn’t need to do anything other than simply ‘be’. Pleasure and pain; gain and loss; fame and obscurity; praise and blame, were mind states that he had gone beyond. It’s significant that despite all sorts of ascetic practices, the Buddha discovered that forceful practice was not the answer to enlightened mind. Instead he recalled a childhood memory of sitting in relaxed awareness.
This morning of meditation will help us surrender into ’now awareness’, relaxed awareness, which is content to be where we are. Do join me for led meditations and a short talk.
