Sub-35s: Alternative Friday Night

How do we respond to a world on fire?

Come and meet like-minded people aged 18-35, for an alternative Friday night of meditation, Buddhism talks, discussion and alcohol-free socialising.

Make a positive choice for yourself and the world.

Do something different.

With so much suffering happening in the world and in our own lives, being a young person today can feel overwhelming. Wherever we look now, we witness poverty, ill health and even death in our immediate surroundings. Perhaps we take refuge in an online world of screens, 24/7 news, or social media only to be instantly exposed to unimaginable levels of suffering in more distant places. And yet we know deep down that turning our heads and looking away from all of this is no way to respond to a world on fire.

What if there was another way to respond to this world which acknowledged its difficulties but without falling into the traps of apathy or maintaining false positivity? What if we could honestly face up to the world’s suffering, and our own suffering, and still find space within ourselves to be more compassionate, kinder, and more loving? Buddhism can help us engage in this world honestly and authentically, giving us the resources we need to face reality and use our suffering to transform our own minds. In doing so, we can become more resilient and we can begin to influence the world more positively.

Join us on the first Friday of every month to explore how Buddhism can support this journey of transformation.

You don’t need to be a Buddhist to come to the Buddhist Centre – everyone is welcome.

No need to book in advance, just turn up on the night.

James and Nirajamani are two team members on the Sub-35s facilitators team.
