The Taste of Freedom

The Taste of Freedom

A six week course exploring the Buddha’s teachings on freedom/vimutti (Pali).
What is freedom?
  • Is it being able to do what you want, when or where you want?
  • Is it ‘being yourself’?
  • Is it something to train ourselves towards or can it just happen?
The Buddha said that freedom begins by breaking the first three fetters (there are ten). These three ‘fetters’ are Habit, Superficiality and Vagueness. We will be exploring how these manifest in our lives and how they might be obstacles to our development as human beings.
The dakini will be our mascot throughout the 6 weeks of the course. The blazing figure of a dakini is a Tantric female sky-dancer who appears in many different forms in Indian & Tibetan Buddhist iconography. Dakinis represent wisdom, energy, compassion and truth. They are free, spontaneous, wrathful and passionate – totally liberated.
There will be talks, discussion, meditation and opportunities to practice and explore in our daily lives. Through this time together, we will get a taste of freedom and happiness which is not dependent on things going well in our lives.
Participants will receive a link to the ebook ‘A Taste of Freedom’ as part of the course.
